The Sunpentown SC-886 3-Cup Stainless-Steel Rice Cooker is a gorgeous addition to our cozy little kitchen. With the outer face made of stainless steel, it matches most of the kitchen appliances we have and it is of a sensible size that it doesn’t take too much space on the countertop but cooks enough rice for our three member family.
The most original thing about the Sunpentown SC-886 Rice Cooker is that its rice bowl is not coated with a nonstick coating or PTFE. This makes the rice it cooks so much healthier when compared with rice cooked with a rice cooker that has aluminum and this nonstick coating for as part of its materials.
It has an automatic shut off feature that kicks in when the rice is cooked and only if set to on is when the warmer setting is automatically switched to. This prevents rice from being overcooked, burnt or dried out. Lights indicate the cook or warmer mode so you would know what cycle it is at in rice cooking.
This rice cooker has settings for slow cooking too. The Sunpentown SC-886 3-Cup Rice Cooker can be used to make other steamed viands, soups and stews. We do need to add extra water when making soups and congee. Steaming actually keeps more nutrients in a vegetable and we always use the steaming function to cook the vegetables we love that go well with different sauces.
This item is so easy to clean too. Although the SC-886 3-Cup Stainless-Steel Rice Cooker has thought of putting in stay cool handles on its sides, please be careful when transporting this rice cooker. The handles do stay pretty cool but the whole outer covering, I guess because it is stainless steel, does get a bit hot after use, either for cooking rice or steaming vegetables.
With just that minor hiccup, the Sunpentown SC-886 3-Cup Stainless-Steel Rice Cooker is a very reliable and handy item to have in the kitchen. Full meals are prepared with just a touch of a button and it’s so much more comforting to think that what is cooked by this rice cooker is beneficial to health as well.
